<image:caption>kuh-lai-uh-pee Calliope in Greek Mythology The muse of eloquence and epic poetry. Derived from the Greek, Kallos Ops, the meaning of her name is beautiful-voiced. Calliope in Nature The Calliope Hummingbird is the smallest long-distance avian migrant in the world. On average their weight is only slightly heavier than that of a penny. Calliope hummingbirds can be found summering in the Blue, Wallowa and other mountain ranges east of the Cascades in Oregon. Calliope in Music A musical instrument made of a series of steam-powered whistles to make a distinctive, shrill sound that can be heard from miles away. Traditionally they were used to attract crowds from far and wide to traveling fairs, circuses, and riverboats. Symbols: resilience, vitality, creativity, voice, navigation, movement and stillness</image:caption>
